The Civil Service is becoming more efficient, more commercial and more customer-focussed. HR is making an impact on this in many ways, for example, ensuring that we recruit and develop talent, create effective HR policy and organising our people in the most efficient way. HR makes an impact internally for Civil Service employees and, in turn, externally for our customers.
This is an exciting time to work in Civil Service HR as a large part of the current governments reform plan is about the people that work for us. Our function is responsible for finding the people solutions required in a time of great change across government.
As Head of Civil Service HR since 2013, I have led the development of HR in Government. Recognising the need for an HR specific graduate entry and introducing this was a key step in this process. It is my aim to continuously improve our Human Resource function and to do this I believe we need talented graduates who are committed to change and improvement.
As a HR Fast streamer, from day one, you could be working in a huge variety of roles within the HR function and across all government departments. The programme allows you to gain experience in two very different placements, as well as offering you the opportunity to become an HR professional. In return for your hard work and commitment to development, we give you real responsibility in a role that allows you to make an impact and help us deliver the change that we want - whether this be in a policy, operational or a corporate HR role.
Ultimately, the HR Fast Stream prepares you for becoming a future HR leader within the Civil Service. Therefore, we’re looking for you to demonstrate your talent throughout our rigorous application process and assessment centre. You’ll need to be an excellent communicator, show leadership and commercial awareness, pragmatism and forward thinking, amongst other key competencies that we look for.
